What pool relining means
Relining creates a new bonded surface over a suitable existing pool shell. Fibreglass mat and resin form the lining, with a coloured finishing coat above it. It is different from simply painting over a tired surface. The preparation beneath the finish matters as much as the colour you see. We check what the pool is made of, where previous coatings have failed and whether repairs are needed before recommending a reline. A surface finish cannot make an unsound structure sound.
Signs your pool may need a new lining
Blistering, lifting patches, exposed fibres, a chalky finish or staining that returns after normal cleaning are reasons to arrange an inspection. Rough areas around steps and the waterline can also make swimming uncomfortable. Not every mark calls for a full renovation: some problems are related to water balance rather than the lining itself. Send us photographs and tell us about previous repairs, but leave the final decision until we have seen the shell on site. We will explain whether local surface repairs or a complete reline make more sense.
Preparation and application
We begin with a free visit and a written scope covering preparation, repairs and the finish. Once the start date is agreed, draining is planned for the particular pool and site conditions. Loose coatings and failed material are removed, and the surface is ground and prepared for bonding. Repair work comes before the laminate, not underneath a cosmetic cover-up. The fibreglass and resin are applied to the prepared walls, floor and steps, followed by the finishing coat. Tiles and fittings are discussed beforehand so the boundaries of the new lining are clear.
Working time is not the same as curing time
Most projects take 2–5 days of work, depending on the shell, access and weather. After application, the fibreglass needs at least 5 days to cure with the pool empty. The pool is only refilled once the team confirms it is ready. Do not book a swimming party against the last day of work: curing is a separate stage. Rain, cool conditions or additional preparation may change the schedule. We explain the expected sequence in the quote and give you the refill instruction rather than leaving you to guess.
Choosing a colour
Ask to see the available finish colours before agreeing to the job. The apparent water colour depends on the lining, pool depth, daylight, surrounding paving and shade. A photograph on a phone can look different from a sample viewed outside, so it is worth comparing both. White and blue families are familiar choices, but the actual products and colours available are confirmed with your quote. Tell us whether you want to keep the current appearance or change it, and whether the existing mosaics should remain.
Looking after a newly relined pool
Follow the handover instructions for filling, circulation, brushing and water testing. Keep pH, alkalinity and calcium hardness within the finish supplier's recommended ranges. Hard source water can contribute to calcium deposits when the water balance encourages scale; a new lining does not remove that risk. Never scatter concentrated chemicals directly onto the surface, mix products together or use aggressive abrasives to remove a mark. Check the product labels and ask before treating unfamiliar stains. Keeping a record of water tests makes later troubleshooting much easier.
Your 5-Year Warranty
Our relining workmanship is covered by a written 5-Year Warranty. Ask us to explain the scope, care requirements and exclusions before accepting the quote. The workmanship cover is not a promise that every pool component or every water-chemistry problem is covered. Pumps, heaters and other equipment have their own terms where applicable. Keep the quote, handover guidance and warranty document together. If something concerns you afterwards, contact us with photographs and your water-test results so the team can advise the next step.
Common questions
Can you reline a marbelite pool in fibreglass?
Yes, where the existing shell is suitable. We assess the plaster, remove unsound material and specify the preparation before recommending a conversion.
When can I refill after relining?
The fibreglass must cure with the pool empty for at least 5 days after application. Wait for the team's confirmation before refilling.
Does a new lining stop calcium build-up?
No. Calcium deposits depend on source water and water balance. Follow the finish supplier's testing and care instructions after refilling.
Can I choose a different pool colour?
Yes. We show the available finish choices during quoting and discuss how depth, shade and existing tiles affect the appearance.
What warranty comes with the work?
Relining workmanship has a written 5-Year Warranty. The quote and warranty document explain the scope and maintenance conditions.
